High pumping temperatures

Apart from the usual criterea, temperatures in particular often play a decisive role in process technology. In case the temperatures are either extremely low or extremely high, the pump diaphragms have to meet the highest requirements.

Various elastomers, selected in terms of medium restistance, are available for FELUWA double hose-diaphragm pumps and are usually applicable for pumping temperatures of up to 130 °C. For higher pumping temperatures up to 200 °C hose-diaphragms with especially developed PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) mixtures have proven effective.

The two hose-diaphragms, which are arranged one inside the other, create a double-walled barrier for the extremely hot or cold medium. A considerable temperature deduction can already be recognized between the primary and secondary hose-diaphragm. For high temperature applications the heat transferred from the secondary hose-diaphragm to the hydraulic fluid is approx. 40 to 50 °C below the inlet medium temperature.

Some media require a minimum temperature in order to remain fluid. If this temperature drops below minimum they become viscous, solidify or crystallize. To ensure pumpability of the medium the pump head of the double hose-diaphragm pump and, if necessary, also the valve casings and connections are equipped with heating jackets. For extremely hot media the same principle in reverse can be applied for cooling of the product.
